ABOUT

About Cedar Grove Cottage: Our Vision

"Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean."    John Muir (1838-1914)

In the most magical forest setting on the Olympic Peninsula, our Port Ludlow home is now available for you to discover what others have felt since 1976: Cozy, romantic, and only a few miles from the Hood Canal Bridge.  A place where you can experience one of the most naturally dynamic regions in the Pacific Northwest, with everything  you enjoy within minutes of your base location: Farm to Table dining, Hiking, Kayaking, Tasting Rooms, Vintage Shops, or the simple opportunity to rest in complete comfort, ease, and peace within the cottage: Taking time to get back to nature resonates now more than ever as we navigate our busy lives toward balance and peace.

Recently re-styled, Cedar Grove Cottage provides you a respite away from the hustle - bustle of the urban setting within "the village in the woods by the bay", Port Ludlow.  Keeping true to the natural theme of the 70's and it's cool vibe, we remodeled our cottage so modern creature comforts of today are available to our guests including: Fully functional kitchen featuring new stainless steel applicances, ductless energy -efficient heating keeping you warm, and comfort-centered home furnishings with easy access wifi, a smart tv, and a bunch of games for that lazy afternoon.

For this reason, we imagine our home will feel like yours as well.  Mi casa su casa!

Some of our favorite things

Our Recommended "Things to Do" While Visiting the Cottage ...

Breakfast
Nothing starts the day better then a hardy breakfast; especially, a locally sourced farm to table discovery. Just down the road, in the land- rich community of Chimacum, we love Farm's Reach Cafe for a bountiful breakfast to start our day.

Then again, if you are wanting to experience the local Port Townsend scene early in the day, we often head to the water-front and enjoy Hudson's Cafe or hang-out with locals at the Blue Moose Cafe in the marina.  Check out Tommy Knockers and the Silver Water Cafe as well.

From our experience, you can't go wrong seeing what resonates as your favorite: Check out Port Townsend.
Cider, Wine, and Beer

Think of Napa Valley before the big wine explosion; that's what we have here in East Jefferson County.   Our cideries and wineries are world re-known for perfect fruit, exceptional growing conditions, and low-key visiting centers.  It's like stepping back in time when everyone is welcoming and excited to share their craft.  Our favorite, Finn River, is just down the road in Chimacum.  And it's a great place to take your kids if you are on a family day out; so much to do!

Also, as the crow flies from Finn River, you will discover a number of other outstanding  cideries including Alpinfire, and Eaglemount.  In fact, check out the Cider Route as part of your self-guided tour.

Farmers Market

Our love for Jefferson County and everything west of the Hood Canal started for us years ago at the uptown Saturday Farmers Market in Port Townsend, and we have been hooked over since.

From April thru December, you will experience one of the most welcoming and bountiful markets anywhere in the state: Featuring locally grown produce, artisan crafts, and absolutely stunning pop-up foods for purchase.  For easy access, head toward Port Townsend, and make a slight left up the hill. just past the Food Co-op and you'll find the festivities off Lawrence.  Don't forget your basket!

Marine Life
Though our landscape features exquisite evergreens, for many locals, our crowning jewel continues to be the water which  surrounds us.  Whether it be the Port Ludlow Bay, our port of entry, the San Juan Defuca, or hidden rivers and lakes across the county, we are constantly in a state of awe by nature and most notably, the water which serves as our life force.  Don't forget to explore the local Marinas, Glass Beach in Port Townsend, or check out the Northwest Maritime Center.

Another one of our favorite activities is kayaking just across the Hood Canal at Olympic Outdoor Center in the restored charming mill town of Port Gamble.
Chimacum Corner Farmstand and the Port Townsend Co-Op

Wherever we travel, we always check out the local food stores for picnics, snacks, or in-home dining.   We believe you can tell more about a community by it's local market then anything else.  And for this reason, we believe you have hit the jackpot; both the Corner Farmstand and Co-op are remarkable: a vast selection of dynamic local products, a cool vibe of our community, and some of the greatest people work there.

Our region presents extraordinary  local farms and artisan producers; so either venue will serve as your go-to source for your next meal.  Whatever you do, think "farm to table".

Live Music

Often the heart and soul of a community is found in the arts.  If that resonates for you, you have found heaven on earth.  We are fortunate to have more artisan craft masters and talented musicians than anywhere this side of Mount Rainer.  Simply, we are a community of artists.  And benefactors.   So make sure you check out the live music scene every night somewhere within easy driving distance to Cedar Grove.

Most notably, the Centrum features festivals throughout the summer and our restaurants, cideries, bars, and halls feature nationally touring musicians all year long.  Whether you love jazz, classical, folk, americana, or rock, every night will provide you opportunity to enjoy live music.

Imagine all the fun you can experience when you shift to a "digital sunset" and really unwind.

"It's like stepping back in time: We loved our get-away weekend; so relaxing & comfortable; when we left, we felt rejuvenated.  Thank you.
